WPM EDUCATION ANNUAL USER CONFERENCE 2012

The 21st – 23rd February 2012 saw the 8th Annual WPM Education National User Conference held at the 5* Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WPM EDUCATION USER CONFERENCE 2012

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

As expected, this was both the biggest and the best conference to date; covering three days with some 200+ attendees from 88 institutions. We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend and hope you found the conference constructive and worthwhile.

Following the success of last year's event, the conference included a day dedicated to the Online Store (Day 1), a full day conference with keynote speakers from the Higher Education Policy Institute, PCI DSS Council, American Express, Barclays and client case studies (Day 2) and a day of workshops related to our full solution mix and surrounding issues such as training, PCI DSS and the Extranet (Day 3).

A special thanks to American Express, PayPal, Barclays, Secure Trading, Western Union Business Solutions and Unit4 for supporting the conference and exhibiting on days 2 and 3 of the conference. This was the first time we provided users with a structured opportunity to network and meet with third parties at the conference and we are pleased to have received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the partner attendance. This exposure is invaluable to the sector in order to encourage better understanding of WPM, the sector and users' requirements.

Furthermore, the inclusion of highly energetic motivational speaker Adrian Webster was a welcome addition telling us why we should always be aware of the power of those all important ‘Tiny Noticeable Things (TNTs!)’.

The Conference played host to two successful evening events, consisting of a mind reader magician, and a ‘Gameshow Olympics’ interactive quiz with disco, providing delegates with ample opportunity to network with other users and let their hair down after a long day in workshops and demonstrations.

While a large proportion of users did attend for all three days we would stress that many did attend only for the first, first and second, or second and third days as their requirements and interests dictated.

The main themes which carried through the conference were:

  • The importance of getting the most out of WPM's systems
  • Sharing best practice for e-commerce/
    e-payments within the sector
  • Helping users learn about PCI DSS Compliance initiatives and frameworks
  • That systems and processes are regularly reviewed to ensure they are fit for purpose and match current and future requirements

We would like to thank all users for their support throughout the conference and involvement within the workshops.

A special thanks to Jo Brewin (Loughborough University), Simon Holt and Joel Staley (University of Bath), Andrew Redmond (University of Portsmouth), Peter Kendhammer (University of Roehampton), Matthew Ball (University of Leicester) and Carol Parker (University of Southampton) for their interesting and thought-provoking presentations and to Ian Anderson (Coventry University) for chairing another entertaining and informative User Group AGM this year.

For anyone who could not attend or has not previously attended this event we would definitely recommend you try to do so next year and reiterate the value of interacting with other users and sharing experiences which this event is primarily geared to.

We look forward to seeing you at our Regional User Groups in July, if anyone would like to volunteer their institution as a host venue then please let us know!

If you wish to find out more please contact WPM or feel free to call 08442 641 580.

DELEGATE FEEDBACK 2012

"I didn't think it possible but this conference has surpassed all previous events in the quality of the content, workshops and presentations. Well worth the time out of the office."

"Personalised delegate pack is brilliant otherwise would not have remembered my selection! Yet again another superb conference...it just keeps getting better and better. Users we feel like one big family now!"

"Yet again WPM has outdone previous years. This user group meeting is always so much more than just the networking evenings. Everything runs seamlessly, presentations and workshops are excellent I will again take much away to think about."

"No improvements necessary- fantastic conference- looking forward to the next one!"

"Excellent conference and 3 days well spent. Think you do a great job of proactively engaging with your customers which helps to build good relationships and helps us to get the most out of what we want/need."

"It's hard to believe WPM can still improve on the previous year, but they have done so yet again, I've lots of new ideas to take back and it's been good to refresh on old ones. Thanks again!"

"Again, this is the best conference I have attended (since last WPM conference!) Very informative and useful plus I think there is a genuine affection for all WPM staff by clients which makes the conference so much more informal and enjoyable!"
