CARD PAYMENT GATEWAY (CPG)





The core framework of the solution was initially developed in conjunction with the University of Birmingham in 2001 to simplify the process and reduce the overheads involved in the collection of credit and debit card payments and is now entering it's seventh year. It was developed to enable students, their parents and sponsors, to pay their fees online in a simple and convenient manner using a credit or debit card.

WPM Education solution architecture is completely modular, allowing easy integration with the University's web site design template and existing systems in batch or real-time. The solution is fully managed and hosted on the WPM secure network, requiring no initial hardware investment or ongoing maintenance.

There is no limitation in terms of the types of payment that can be taken online. The solution can easily be adapted to take payments for various other common items from students and non-students alike, including:
  • Tuition and Accommodation Fees or Deposits
  • International Deposits
  • Library Fines
  • Printing credits
  • Topping-up of EPOS credits
  • Donations

The system can be used to collect any real-time fee or payment the University requires. Additionally it can support multiple currencies using Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) * and languages. (* dependent on PSP's functionality).

PAYMENT PATHWAYS AND PSP'S


The flexibility of the Card Payment Gateway allows it to support a number of functionally different payment "pathways"; where each can be optimised for its own particular audience and payment type(s). The solution is therefore suitable for any type of payment from relatively large value tuition and accommodation fees through to smaller value miscellaneous and incidental costs.

Transactions are processed in "real-time" via an online Payment Service Provider (PSP). Typically the PSP is connected to a main bank although we have also worked with a number of other independent providers which, among others, include:


The Card Payment Gateway solution is Payment Service Provider independent and can support multiple PSPs and merchant accounts within a single implementation. This also allows the use of different PSPs for different commercial entities using the solution.

A fundamental advantage of the solution is that as it is not dependent on any one PSP and it is possible to, with a minimal amount of disruption, to change from one PSP to another at any point. This means the higher or further education institution is not reliant on any specific PSP and can shop around for the best combination of transaction charges and functionality. It is also possible to run a combination of PSPs in situations where transaction volume or value dictates that one cannot adequately cater for both extremes.
